Chinese New Year

Craving: "Loh Neng" @ Stewed Eggs

The chinese new year season is back again. There are mandrin oranges, red packets, money, gold, lion dances, loud music, fire crackers, the colour red in general...all have returned to Asia. The best part of this time to me though, is the good food and the reunions. It's always so fun to meet up with family and friends and just spend time partaking of good food and fellowship. Best thing is gatherings like this keep the family together, and it is this part of CNY that I miss the most.

My dad's side of the family used to gather quite often in a year, not only on CNY. The adults would gather for coffee and "yiu char ke" and just talk. The younger ones would sitting around playing cards and just chatting, and the family was really just so close. All of this has changed however. Most of them are overseas now and CNY just isn't what it used to be.

This year is just going to be my parents and myself for the reunion....quite sad considering we used to have 30-40 people at the family gatherings. I'm exceptionally sad about this, because this will be the 6th year that the gatherings have shrunk. I was away for studies for 3 years, and then when i finally came home, half the clan had already migrated. This season is about family...and it just doesn't seem right without everyone together....
